Early Bird Survey

Having mentioned the various BTO surveys the last couple of days, there’s another I want to encourage you to do.

The BTO are looking at whether light pollution affects our garden birds. To do this, they want to see if birds are coming to feeders pre-dawn. The Early Bird Survey.

It’s not hard. You find out when dawn is for you on 9th January. You then get up an hour or so before that, and see if any birds are coming down to your feeders. There are a few other things you can do to make your results more useful, and all instructions are available HERE.

Dawn isn’t exactly early in winter, so it’s not requiring of any super-human efforts! I’ll be giving it a go.
