An unexpected guest

Had a surprise visitor earlier this month:

???????????????????????????????I hear plenty of pheasants in the land across the river from us, but this is the one and only to land in the garden in 18 months. No further visits.

We have plenty of regular visitors though, with robins, blackbirds, long-tailed, blue, coal and great tits, a wren, and plenty of goldfinches and greenfinches. Plus the usual wood pigeons and collared doves. We have a little band of starlings that tend to cause comic disruption, much like Harry Enfield’s ‘Scousers’, squabbling and fighting.


Nearby, while it seems likely to be a quiet year for migrant thrushes and waxwings, there is a small group of redwings:
