30 Days Wild – Day 29 – The end is nigh…

There’s an unfortunate sense of the month petering out at the moment with the weather minimising chances for anything special to close it out.

But still even the odd grabbed moment can work. After weeks of failing to find orchids I now have my eye in and seem to be spotting them everywhere.

Today’s find, while fading, was probably the best so far. Certainly the most prominent. And the flowers are glorious.

They weren’t the only highlight. The pochard ducklings have been disappearing rapidly, so it was great to see two females and two chicks.

It’s really quite impressive to have at least one breeding pair on each of the campuses when you consider there are only around 650 breeding pairs across the whole of the UK. Hopefully they will be back next year too.

We’ll see what Day 30 holds. I rather wish it was on Saturday instead to give me the time, but if nothing else I’ll have done the full thirty days.
