30 Days Wild – Day 5 – Burnby Hall and Gardens

As I had an event to attend at Burnby Hall, I had a quick wander round the gardens to see what wild moments may be round the corner.

The highlight was probably a noisy, flighty group of long-tailed tits. There were at least a dozen, of which many were fluffy, bandit-masked chicks.

There were moorhens too, and a few well-grown mallards. Those mallards had done well to reach such a size given there were several huge carp in the lake, perfectly capable of sucking down a duckling.

Carp were not the only threat to the birds, but on a warm and sunny afternoon, the top predator seemed disinterested in doing anything other than sleeping.
