A garden kingfisher

Sadly no photo to accompany this as it was over in seconds, but I was delighted to see a kingfisher in the garden today.

I should start be being clear that I don’t have some grand estate with a wood, river, and large lakes. I have a small suburban garden with a small pond.

So, while watching the cricket this morning, I had to do a double take as a flash of blue outside drew my attention.

A kingfisher had briefly alighted on a plant pot by the pond. It took a glance at the frozen water and was away.

I doubt this will ever be repeated, but it will always be a great moment.

  1. Dad says:

You have got the river Foss at back of you so considering the state of rivers kingfishers along with herons will have a look at any pond where dinner may on tap

I welcome thoughts, comments and questions, so please feel free to share anything at all. Thanks, David
